This cream is designed to be adapted according to your tastes and requirements. The purified water and perfume can be substituted with various additives, but you must add two drops of tincture of benzoin to preserve the cream.

For an orange blossom moisturizer, add 90ml (6 tbsps) of orange flower water and perfume with oil of neroli or bergamot. This is a most effective rich cream, especially suitable for older skins or those exposed to sun and wind. It smoothes out dry skin and wrinkles.

For a strawberry moisturizer, add 90ml (6 tbsps) of strawberry juice and perfume with strawberry essence or rose geranium oil. This is suitable as a healing cream for oily skins, and for sunburnt or windburnt faces, throats, and shoulders.

For a rich rose, moisturizer adds 90ml (6 tbsps) of rosewater and perfume with oil of roses. This is an exquisite soothing cream which is ideal for dry skins. Herbal infusions may also be substituted for the purified water. Use lavender flower water, which is healing and antiseptic, and lavender oil for a fragrant moisturizer suitable for all skins. Elderflower, marigold and lime flowers are healing and make good moisturizers. Add a few drops of light floral perfume if you wish. Marshmallow, comfrey and camomile infusions make gentle healing moisturizers perfumed with a few drops of camomile oil.

  • 5ml (1 tsp) beeswax
  • 10ml (2 tsp) emulsifying wax
  • 4Oml (8 tsp) almond oil
  •  20ml (4 tsp) avocado oil
  • 30ml (2 tbsps) purified water
  • A pinch of borax a
  • Few drops of perfumed oil
  • Process: Melt the waxes together in a bowl in a bain-marie and add the oils. Heat the water at the same time and dissolve the borax in it. Remove both bowls from the heat and beat the water into the oils a little at a time. Continue beating until cool, then add a few drops of perfumed oil to the mixture if desired. Spoon into a 100ml  pot, seal, and label.
  • Apply this twice a week in order to get glowing skin at home.

BASIC COLD CREAM

Use the recipe given for the basic cleansing cream, substituting either rose or rose petal water, elderflower or rosemary water for the purified water. All these have highly beneficial effects on the skin.

SUPERB ALL-PURPOSE CONDITIONING CREAM

A smooth and nourishing night cream, suitable for dry or normal skins.

  •  60ml (4 tbsps) emulsifying wax
  • 30ml (2 tbsps) beeswax
  • 45ml (3 tbsps) anhydrous lanolin
  • 60ml (4 tbsp) almond oil
  • 60ml (4 tbsp) sesame oil
  • 30ml (2 tbsps) avocado oil
  • 60ml (4 tbsp) sunflower oil
  • 75ml (5 tbsps) purified water
  • 2.5ml (½ tsp) borax
  • Process: Melt the waxes together in a bowl in a bain-marie and add the lanolin and oils. Heat the water to the same temperature in a separate bowl and stir the borax in until it dissolves. Remove both the bowls from the heat and slowly add the water to the oils, beating constantly. Beat gently until the mixture thickens and cools. Spoon into a 500ml (18fl oz)) pot and seal.
  • Apply this twice a week in order to get glowing skin at home.

MARIGOLD AND WHEATGERM CREAM

A light, healing and nourishing night cream, particularly suitable for mature, blemished or climatically damaged skins.

  • 30ml (2 tbsps) beeswax
  • 30ml (2 tbsps) anhydrous lanolin
  • 90ml (6 tbsp) almond oil
  • 5ml (1 tsp) wheatgerm oil
  • 90ml (6 tbsps) marigold infusion
  • 2.5ml (½ tsp) borax
  • 2 drops tincture of benzoin
  • Process: Melt the lanolin and wax together in a bowl in a bain-marie and add the oils. In a separate bowl, heat the marigold infusion to the same temperature and stir in the borax until it dissolves. Remove both the bowls from the heat and beat the marigold mixture with the benzoin slowly into the oils. Continue beating until thick and cool. Spoon into a 275ml (½ pt) pot, seal and keep refrigerated.
  • Apply this twice a week in order to get glowing skin at home.

HONEY AND LECITHIN CREAM

A nourishing and rejuvenating night cream, suitable for all skin types especially those which tend to look sallow.

  • 10ml (2 tsp) anhydrous lanolin
  • 30ml (2 tbsp) almond oil
  • 7.5ml (½ tbsp) clear honey
  • 30ml (2 tbsps) purified water
  • 5ml (1 tsp) lecithin powder
  • Process: Melt the lanolin in a bowl in a bain-marie and stir in the oil and honey. Warm the water in a second bowl to the same temperature. Remove both bowls from the heat and add the water to the lanolin mixture, beating well. Continue beating until cool and then add the lecithin, stirring well. Spoon into a 100ml (4fl oz) pot, seal and keep refrigerated.
  • Apply this twice a week in order to get glowing skin at home.

RICH VITAMIN CREAM

A very nourishing and healing night cream that restores elasticity and improves the condition of all skin types.

  • 15ml (1 tbsp) beeswax
  • 15ml (1 tbsp) emulsifying wax
  • 15ml (1 tbsp) anhydrous lanolin
  • 30ml (2 tbsp) almond or sesame oil
  • 45ml (3 tbsps) wheatgerm oil
  • 90ml (6 tbsps) purified water
  • 2.5ml (½ tsp) borax
  • 4 capsules Vitamin A oil
  • 2 drops tincture of benzoin
  • Process: Melt the waxes and lanolin together in a bowl in a bain-marie and add the oils. Heat the water to the same temperature in a separate bowl and stir in the borax until it dissolves. Remove both bowls from the heat and add the water to the waxes and oils, beating constantly until the mixture begins to cool. Prick the Vitamin A capsules open and add to the mixture with the benzoin. Continue beating until thick and set. Spoon into a 425ml (¾ pt) pot and seal.
  • Apply this  2 – 3 times a week in order to get glowing skin at home.

SIMPLE STRAWBERRY CREAM

Strawberry juice reduces oiliness and improves skin color. Other soft fruits, such as raspberries and blackberries, can be substituted for the strawberries to make night creams equally valuable in the treatment of oily skins. Raspberry cream, which contains healing Vitamin C, is especially useful for problem skins.

  • juice from 6 good-sized strawberries
  • 30ml (2 tbsps) anhydrous lanolin
  • 30ml (2 tbsp) sunflower oil
  • Process: Obtain your juice by mashing fresh or frozen strawberries through a nylon sieve. Melt the lanolin and oil in a bain-marie and add the warmed juice, stirring well. Beat continuously until the mixture cools. Make a small amount of cream at a time and keep refrigerated.
  • Apply this  2 – 3 times a week in order to get glowing skin at home.
