GRILLED BANANAS WITH LINE SYRUP
- 115g/4oz sugar
- Juice and grated zest of 2 limes
- 100ml/3 ½ fl oz/scant 1 cup water
- 4 bananas, sliced into chunks
Put half the sugar in a saucepan with the lime juice and zest, and the water. Bring to the boil, reduce the heat and simmer for 10 minutes until thick. Place the bananas on some foil, sprinkle with the remaining sugar, and grill, turning occasionally, until golden and soft. Drizzle with the lime syrup, and serve.
BANANA SKIN POULTICE (for corns & calluses)
- 2 small, unripe bananas
- Skins strip of cloth
Using the cloth, bandage a piece of unripe banana skin, gummy-side down, onto the corn or callus. Leave overnight and discard in the morning. Repeat the following night. After 2 days soak the feet in hot water, then scrape away the softened corn with a pumice stone. Repeat as necessary.
BANANA CONDITIONER (to moisturize dry hair)
- 1 ripe banana
- 2 tsp grapeseed oil
Mash the banana using a fork, then mix with the oil to make a paste. Massage into the hair and scalp, then cover the hair with cling film and leave for 30 minutes. Wash out using a mild shampoo.
- 4 bananas, peeled
- 4 tsp lemon juice
- 2 tsp ground cinnamon
- 2 tbsp flaked almonds
Slice the bananas in half lengthways and place on an oiled baking sheet. Sprinkle with the lemon juice and cinnamon and place under a hot grill until the bananas start to brown. Scatter the almonds over, and serve.
- 2 ripe bananas
- 20 raspberries
- 20 blueberries
- 500g/1lb 2oz/2 cups plain bio-yogurt
- ½ tsp ground ginger
Whizz together the bananas, berries and yogurt in a blender until smooth. Pour into two glasses, sprinkle over the ginger and serve immediately.
- 2 bananas, chopped
- 500ml/17fl oz/2 cups soya milk or milk of your choice
- 1 tbsp maple syrup
- 1 tbsp natural vanilla extract
- 1 tsp ground nutmeg
Put the bananas, milk, maple syrup and vanilla extract in a blender and whizz until smooth. Serve chilled, sprinkled with the nutmeg.
